POW/MIA Table
As you entered the dining area, you may have noticed the small table located in a place of honor. It is set for one. This table is our way of symbolizing that members’ of the armed forces who are missing from our midst. They are commonly called P.O.W.’s or M.I.A.’s, we call them brothers.
They are unable to be with their loved ones and families tonight, so we join together to pay our humble tribute to them, and bear witness to their continued absence. Remember.
The table is round…to show our continuous and everlasting concern for our missing men. Remember.
This table set for one is small… it symbolizes the frailty of one prisoner against his oppressors. Remember.
The single rose displayed in a vase reminds us of the families and loved ones of our comrades in arms who keep faith awaiting their return. Remember.
The red ribbon, tied so prominently on the vase, is reminiscent of the red ribbon worn on the lapel and breasts of thousands who bear witness to their unyielding determination to demand a proper accounting for our missing. Remember.
A slice of lemon is on the bread plate… to remind us of the bitter fate of those captured and missing in a foreign land. Remember.
A pinch salt is on the bread plate… symbolic of the family’s tears as they wait. Remember.
The glass is inverted… they cannot toast with us tonight.
The chair is empty… they are not here.
THEY are LOVED AND MISSED VERY MUCH.
The candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to illuminate their way home, away from their captors, to the open arms of a grateful nation.
Let us pray [pause] to the supreme commander [pause] that all of our comrades will soon be returned to our ranks.
Let us remember [pause] and never forget their sacrifices. May God forever watch over them and protect them and their families.
